Bridge FA 90 Girls win Atlanta Cup

The Bridge opened group play on Saturday with two matches. Roswell Santos Red would be the first opponent and the Bridge would come away with a 2 – 0 win. The game was evenly played in the first half with neither team able to find the back of the net. The Bridge would take over the second half and receive goals from Erin Callahan and Ashley Reetz to make the score 2-0. Bilan Williams and Jade Davis would share the goalkeeping duties and post the shutout. 
The second game of the day would put the Bridge against Kennesaw FC Blue.  This time the Bridge came out quick and took a 2 – 0 lead into halftime. Goals would come again from Erin Callahan and Ashley Reetz. Jade Davis and Bilan Williams would once again split the shutout. The Bridge received an outstanding defensive performance from Nina Milroth, Caroline Williams, Tamara Hocking, Sarah Lauglin, and Brittany Harley as they controlled the Kennesaw offense and would help preserve the shutout. 
The Bridge headed into Sunday 2 – 0 and tied for first place with the Tophat 90 Navy, Sunday’s opponent. The winner would finish first in the group headed into the Semi-Finals. 
In a game that would feature 5 goals in the first half and zero in the second, Tophat was able to secure a 3-2 win and take first place. 
The Bridge came out quick as Ashley Reetz would score her third goal of the tournament, getting behind the Tophat defenders and beating the keeper for a 1 – 0 lead. The lead would not last long as the Tophat would tie the score at 1 – 1. Defender turned midfielder Caroline Williams would score to make the score 2 – 1 Bridge, after she was able to find the back of the net off a rebound. Again Tophat would equalize and make the score 2 -2. Tophat would then take the lead before halftime making the score 3 – 2 at the break. 
Both teams would battle in the second half but neither was able to find the back of the net and Tophat would earn a hard fought 3 – 2 win. 
The Bridge would advance to the Semi-Finals later on Sunday as the second seed in the group. The Bridge would face Peachtree City , with the winner advancing to the Championship game on Monday. 
Peachtree would take control of the game early but where unable to beat the Bridge defenders. The Bridge would eventually get behind the Peachtree defenders and Ashley Reetz would score her 4th goal of the tournament to make the score 1 – 0 at halftime. 
The second half was much the same as Peachtree would create numerous chances but where unable to score. Ashley Reetz would continue her tremendous scoring streak as she added her second of the game and fifth of the tournament to make the score 2 – 0. The bridge received tremendous midfield play from Alex Keith, Tiffany Kinner, Karlie Kunkel, Tory Cortes, and Kaitlyn Dixon in preserving the 2 – 0 to advance to Mondays final. 
The final would be a rematch of the group game with Tophat. In a game played in the scorching heat, both teams would come out strong and create chances. Bridge forwards Jennifer Pineiro, Nicole Castiglione, and Alison Burson would threaten but where unable to beat the Tophat goalkeeper. The scored would remain 0 – 0 going into halftime. 
The second half was again a battle as both teams started to feel the effects of the heat. Both keepers where up to the task and the game would end in regulation at 0 – 0. The Bridge defenders, Alex Keith, Caroline Williams, Tamara Hocking, and Sarah Lauglin did a tremendous job in shutting down the Tophat offense which had scored 15 goals entering the final. 
The two teams would now play 2 – 5 minute overtime periods and if still tied after that the game would be decided by penalty kicks. 
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in overtime and the game would go to penalty kicks. The Bridge would shoot first and Erin Callahan would finish her chance to give the Bridge the first lead. Tophat would score on their first shot to tie the score at 1 – 1. Ashley Reetz would convert her kick to make it 2 – 1. Bridge keeper Jade Davis would stop the next shot and give the Bridge the lead for good. Karlie Kunkel would go side netting to give the Bridge a 3 – 1 lead. The third Tophat shooter would bang her shot off the crossbar and leave the Bridge in total control. Tiffany Kinner would convert her shot and seal the win for the Bridge, 4 – 1 in penalty kicks, and a 1 – 0 final score. 
It was a tremendous weekend for the team as they went 4 – 1, scoring 8 goals and only giving up 3. The team returns back to league play on September 15 and will also be participating in the Mt. Pleasant Tournament October 20-21.
