Bridge FA U16 Academy Defeats US National Team 3-1
Friday June 27,2008 (USSDA Summer Showcase)

Bridge FA’s U16 Development Academy team defeated the US National Team as part of their first game at the Summer Showcase held in Greensboro, NC.  The game was played in Bryan Park Stadium in front of tremendous BFA support, National Staff, multiple college coaches and a host of other Development Academy players and parents.  The US National teams is a participant in the US Development Academy League and games are scheduled with other Academy clubs throughout the year.  The US National Team was comprised of 1992 players who were in residency plus several other players who were getting a look by the National Staff.

Bridge FA was lead by Austin Savage and Bobby Belair offensively with solid performances put in by everyone including both goalkeepers Brendan Shumberger and Robert Beebe to hold the National team to only (1) goal.   Bridge FA opened the scoring on a Bobby Belair header off a corner kick from Nico Rittmeyer midway through the first half.  Austin Savage than had a brilliant goal as he started his run with the ball from the left side of the 18 yard box curling a shot into the far corner to make it 2-0 at halftime.  Savage than scored a crafty goal by chipping the ball over the outstretched keeper making it 3-0 Bridge FA.  The National Team scored off a corner kick late in the game as the applied pressure on Bridge FA.

“The summer showcase is the conclusion of our season as our first year in the Development Academy Program which has been a tremendous experience for our players involved.  The Development Academy has provided our players the platform for better competition over a 30 game season, increased exposure to US National Staff, a broader range of collegiate choices, and has forced our players to get better over the course of a longer season playing year round.  We are looking forward to next year and the future of the Development Academy”, states Bridge FA Director Clark Brisson.
