Justin Watson called up to play with U18 MNT in Portugal
Justin selected as one of 4 forwards.

CHICAGO (May 8, 2008) — The U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team is set to travel to Portugal later this month, heading across the Atlantic Ocean for games against Finland, Germany and Portugal. Head coach Mike Matkovich has called in 18 players for the trip, which will commence on May 22.

The U.S. will face Finland on May 27, before meeting Germany on May 28. The U-18s will finish the round-robin tournament by matching up with hosts Portugal on May 30.

New Directors of Soccer Announced
Junior Academy Staff

Bridge FA announces the hiring of two new Directors of Soccer for the 2009-10 year, Jeff Hoerner and Jason Birchwood. While both coach teams within the club, Jeff will focus his attention more on the operational side of the club and Jason will be charged with player development and working with the coaching staff.

Bridge FA also announces the development of a Junior Academy Program for the 2009-10 year. Doug Kifer has been selected as the Junior Academy Coordinator. The Junior Academy staff includes: Shannon Champ, Tracey Rickus, Craig Brady, Jason Duncan, Collin Phillips.

2009 Bridge Invitational
2010 Robbie Owens Memorial Soccer Cup set for April 24-25

Bridge FA would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the teams participating in the 3rd edition of the Bridge Invitational. In all, 117 teams from FL, GA, NC and SC entered in U9 - U16 age groups. This year’s event has special significance in that it is honoring the life of Robbie Owens, a former BFA player, who passed away last summer.

Beginning in 2010, the tournament will be known as the Robbie Owens Memorial Soccer Tournament. A fund is being set up in his memory to help players (U15-U18) striving to compete at the highest levels. It will be a scholarship fund dedicated to the BFA US Soccer Development Academy program, which has tranistioned into SC United FC starting with the 2009-10 soccer season.

CHICAGO (March 25, 2009) -- U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team head coach Mike Matkovich has called 26 players, all born in 1991, to a domestic training camp at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. from April 18-26.

Matkovich’s group includes 17 players who are currently part of U.S. Soccer’s Development Academy, representing 15 different clubs. Arsenal F.C. and the Columbus Crew are the only two clubs to send more than one player with Dion Acoff and Miles Byass and Chad Barson and Ben Speas, respectively.

Bridge FA has decided to honor the life of Robbie Owens, who passed away tragically last summer. He played for its U18 USSDA Academy team and West Ashley High School. The Bridge Invitational will become the Robbie Owens Memorial Soccer Tournament in 2010. This year, the Bridge Invitational will also serve as "A Tribute to Robbie Owens". We honor his passion for people and life.

 

94 Bridge Girls Capture Vulcan Cup Championship

The Bridge U14 Girls team traveled to Alabama and participated in the Red Diamond Vulcan Cup hosted by the Birmingham United Soccer Association this past weekend, March 14th and 15th. The tournament had 368 teams from 14 States participating.
The Bridge U14 girl’s team participated in and won the Silver Bracket Championship by going 3 – 0 in group play and then winning the Championship game in overtime over NASA Elite from Atlanta, ranked #4 in GA.

(1/29/09) Bridge FA’s US Development Academy teams lost both of their matches on Saturday at Charleston Southern University against South Charlotte. BFA next plays at North Meck SC on Saturday, Jan. 31.

Bridge FA U-17 Gold Girls win Orange Classic Tournament
2nd Tournament Title This Season

The BFA U-17 Gold Girls defeated teams from Florida, Canada, New Jersey and Texas to bring home the gold in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida December 26-30, 2008. The team held opponents to four shutouts and only one goal scored against during five games of tournament play. Numerous college scouts were in attendance showing interest in several of the team’s players. The U-17 Gold Girls also won the Dick’s Charlotte Invitational Tournament in August.

U18 MNT: BFA is proud to announce that Justin Watson, BFA U18 Academy has been selected to participate in the upcoming U18 Men’s National Team 72-Player Camp in Carson, California. The event will take place from Dec. 28 - Jan. 5.  From this camp, 18 players will be selected to travel to Australia with the U18 Men’s National Team to participate in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival (Jan. 9-19 in Sydney).

BFA Helps Sports Ministry Program in Mbita, Kenya
1st Annual Win A Kid's Heart Golf Tournament

On November 10, at the Patriots Point Golf Course, the 1st Annual Win A Kid’s Heart Captains Choice Golf Tournament will tee off at 11am Shotgun Start. Bridge FA is a partner in this project to raise money and equipment for the Christ’s Gift Academy’s Sports Ministry Program in Mbita, Kenya. The program in Kenya provides quality education and sports programs for orphans and other needy children in their community.

Eads & L'Amoreaux Shine

 
Congratulations to Wesley Eads and Devin L’Amoreaux who were selected as part of the 1994 holdover camp and 1994 Regional Pool Team.  Final selections for future events will be made at later dates.  Both Wesley and Devin played for the 93 Gold Team, USYSA Regional Quarterfinalist and will continue to develop their game as full time players within US Development Academy U16 team.  “I have watched these two kids grow over the last six years and I feel Bridge FA is fortunate to be able to offer these kids the opportunity to play in the Development Academy.  The US Development Academy will be the testing and proving ground for the serious player of the future.”
